Position Overview:
The Mental Health Support Worker provides direct, person-centered support to individuals experiencing mental health challenges. This role focuses on assisting clients with daily living activities, crisis intervention, and facilitating recovery goals while promoting overall well-being. The position involves offering emotional support, practical assistance, and access to community resources in collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities

Client Support

  • Provide emotional and social support to clients, assisting them in developing life skills and achieving personal growth.
  • Assist clients with daily tasks, including maintaining household cleanliness, managing grocery shopping, and scheduling appointments.
  • Facilitate the scheduling of community activities to enhance client engagement and well-being.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients to monitor progress, ensure medication adherence, appointment attendance, bill payments, and the submission of necessary forms for income assistance.
  • Monitor clients' mental health status, identify potential crisis situations, and implement appropriate interventions in cooperation with the client's clinical team.

Crisis Management

  • Respond calmly and effectively to crisis situations, employing de-escalation techniques as needed.
  • Implement crisis intervention protocols, including contacting emergency services when necessary.

Collaboration and Documentation

  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date client records, documenting observations, interventions, and progress.
  • Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure coordinated care.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, families, and other stakeholders.

Community Engagement

  • Support clients in accessing community resources related to housing, employment, and social activities.
  • Advocate for client needs while promoting autonomy and independence.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Compassion and Empathy: Strong understanding of mental health challenges and a client-centered approach.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication abilities.
  • Crisis Intervention: Ability to remain calm and implement appropriate interventions in high-stress situations.
  • Problem-Solving: Capacity to assess situations, identify needs, and develop effective solutions.
  • Collaboration: Experience working within a team-oriented environment.
  • Education: Certificate or diploma in mental health support, social work, or a related field.
  • Experience: Prior experience supporting individuals with mental health challenges is preferred.
  • Access to a reliable and insured vehicle is required.
