The Village of New Maryland is a growing community with many new and exciting projects taking place. We are currently in search of a Building Inspector/Development Officer to join our team and help support our Council and staff in serving the needs and expectations of our community.
Position summary: Reporting to the Department Manager, the primary function will be to ensure the proficient delivery of services provided by the Village's Development Services Department.

The successful candidate will be responsible to perform technical and administrative duties relating to construction plans review; building permit issuance; and inspections to ensure compliance with the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC), NB Building Code Administration Act (BCAA) and other relevant municipal, provincial and federal codes, regulations, and local bylaws. Simultaneously, the candidate will be responsible for the coordination and review of zoning and development applications and the administration, amendment and enforcement of local by-laws within the provisions of the NB CommunityPlanning Act (CPA).

Qualifications:
- Relevant post-secondary diploma in an Engineering or Architectural Technology program;
- New Brunswick Certified Building Code Official (Level 1) certification, or the ability to obtain certification; and,
- Two to five years of work experience as a Certified Engineering Technician/Technologist (CET) or Professional Technologist (PTech) in fields related to building construction, municipal development or regulatory compliance.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- An understanding of the NBCC, and the BCAA and CPA and their regulations:
- Experience with legislation, policies, procedures, protocols, rules and regulations concerning the structure and functioning of a municipal government;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to ensure informed decisions based on applicable regulations and standards;
- Proactive resolution of conflicts by collaborating with applicants and stakeholders to find suitable solutions;
- Teamwork and relationship-building skills with a strong focus on customer service;
- Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office programs, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Aided Design (CAD));
- Effective verbal and written communication skills demonstrating tact and diplomacy;
- Ability to adapt to and work effectively within a variety of situations and groups; and,
- Excellent time and stress management skills.
- Bilingualism will be considered an asset.
Salary: $64,162-$82,495 plus a generous benefits package and room to grow.
Working conditions: This is a full time, in-person position in New Maryland, NB. Work is required some evenings or weekends to attend meetings and/or community events. The work also requires focus on customer service, very high levels of concentration, and periods of physical effort related to inspection of construction sites.
