East Cumberland Lodge, a 74-bed long-term care facility located in beautiful Pugwash, Nova Scotia, is seeking a Director of Human Resources (0.8 FTE) to lead our human resources functions and contribute to our organizational success.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Director of Human Resources will be responsible for organizational effectiveness, recruitment, retention, and overall human resource management. The successful candidate will develop and implement a strategic human resources plan, ensuring best practices in employee relations, workforce planning, and compliance with employment regulations.

A hybrid/remote work environment is possible for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and implement a strategic human resources plan aligned with the organization's goals.

Oversee recruitment, retention, and workforce planning to ensure adequate staffing levels.

Work closely with Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to support foreign worker recruitment and integration.

Provide leadership in employee relations, performance management, and conflict resolution.

Ensure compliance with labour laws, collective agreements, and organizational policies.

Oversee training and development initiatives to enhance workforce skills and engagement.

Manage employee benefits, including NSHEPP pension administration.

Foster a positive workplace culture that supports employee well-being and satisfaction.

Qualifications & Experience:

Educational Background: A university degree or college diploma in human resources management or a related field, such as business administration, industrial relations, commerce, or psychology.

Professional Certification: The Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation would be considered an asset.

Willingness to complete a professional development program in human resources administration or possession of one currently would be expected.

Experience in long-term care, healthcare, or a unionized environment is an asset.

Strong knowledge of employment law, HR best practices, and workforce planning.

Experience in recruitment, including working with IRCC and foreign worker programs.

Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Compensation:

Salary range: $65,000 - $70,000 FTE.
