We are a 48-bed facility, and we are fully licensed by the province of Nova Scotia. Nakile maintains a reputation as one of the finest long-term care facilities in Western Nova Scotia. At Nakile we promote a home-like atmosphere, and we strive to meet the individual needs of the people who live here. We are currently seeking a Part-Time Physiotherapist to join the Nakile family.
Hours of Work
Part-Time, 16 hours/bi-weekly
Job Purpose
Under the direction of the administrator and in consultation with the Director of Care and Resident Care Coordinator, the Physiotherapist is responsible for overseeing residents' physiotherapy needs through the development of individualized physical activity programs and providing leadership and guidance to the Physiotherapy Assistant.
Responsibilities
- Provide physiotherapy services for residents upon referral from Registered Nurse or other members of the multidisciplinary care team
- Assess new residents for range of motion, strength, need for clinical care and equipment aids.
- Develop an individualized activity program for each resident.
- Identify need for and provide clinical therapy as required.
- Advise and guide the Physiotherapy Assistant on the implementation of residents' individualized programs.
- Provide guidance and assistance to Physiotherapy Assistant on incorporating regularly scheduled recreation activities into each resident's physiotherapy plan.
- Review residents' progress with the Physiotherapy Assistant weekly, to provide input on any changes that need to be made to the individual programs.
- Reassess residents who have been ill, as required
- Participate as a member of the multidisciplinary care team
- Work to create a safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors
- Provide educational in-services for staff as needed
- Participate in educational opportunities to upgrade skills and knowledge
- Perform other duties as assigned by Administrator
- Provide all services according to established professional physiotherapy standards, polices, procedures and the Professional Code of Ethics
Qualifications
- University degree (Masters) in Physiotherapy
- Current license with the regulatory bodies-The Nova Scotia College of Physiotherapists
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of the interdisciplinary team
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent time management and multitasking skills and must possess ability to prioritize work
- Strong morals and ethics, along with a commitment to resident privacy
The following will be considered assets:
- Previous experience working in Long Term Care.
- High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability.
