Requirements:
- Degree/Diploma from a Post Secondary Education program in Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Forestry, Engineering, or Sport & Recreation Management, or equivalent experience.
- Five (5) years of related experience in Parks Maintenance & Operations, and/or Recreation with municipal experience preferred.
- Equivalent combination of experience and training would be considered an asset.
- Valid Class V Driver's license.
- Canadian Playground Inspection Certification would be considered an asset.

The Foreman of Parks, Sports Operations and Special Events is responsible for various Parks & Trees teams in maintaining and enhancing the city's parks, playgrounds, sports fields, and public open spaces. This role is responsible for ensuring that all park and recreational areas are safe, well-maintained, and visually appealing, while supporting community special events and managing resources effectively. The Foreman of Parks, Sports Operations and Special Events coordinates daily operations, supervises multiple teams, and collaborates with other departments to provide an enjoyable and safe outdoor experience for residents and visitors.
What You'll Do:
- Lead a team of maintenance and operations staff, assign tasks and provide training to ensure high standards of work and safety.
- Establish priorities for staff; ensure work is performed according to established standards, priorities, and budgets; motivate and encourage staff to optimum performance; monitor performance and adjust actions as necessary.
- Develop schedules to maximize productivity while staying within budgetary and resource constraints.
- Coordinate with Recreation and Tourism to prepare and set up parks and facilities for special events.
- Oversee and conduct routine inspections and maintenance of parks, playgrounds, sports fields, sports courts, and other recreational infrastructure.
- Supervise the delivery of services for parks, playgrounds, sports fields, sports courts and other recreational infrastructure to ensure a positive experience for user groups and the public.
- Coordinate irrigation, aeration, and fertilization schedules to maintain healthy turf sports fields and coordinate artificial turf field maintenance and repair as per industry standards.
- Address weather-related damage to ensure fields are in optimal condition for safe and enjoyable use
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders, architects, landscape designers, engineers, and contractors to ensure park facilities, amenities, and infrastructure, aligning with organizational goals. Conduct thorough research on industry trends and sustainable maintenance and operations practices.
- Foster partnerships with external organizations, non-profits, and educational institutions to enhance programming and events.
- Ensure excellent customer service; coordinate work of external contractors and consultants; communicate with suppliers as necessary; meet with officials from governing agencies as necessary.
- Perform on-call duties as required for seasonal operations.
