On behalf of our client - Crosbie, Higher Talent is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Controller. This is a permanent full-time position located in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador
We have an immediate need for a Controller to join our team. The Controller will play a critical role in overseeing the company's financial health by managing accounting operations, tax and treasury, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and providing strategic financial insights to senior management. The Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, while establishing and enforcing proper accounting methods, policies, and principles to ensure the organization's financial statements are accurate and comply with accepted accounting principles.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare/publish monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements while ensuring compliance with local, provincial, and federal financial regulations
- Coordinate and lead the annual audit process
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, general ledger, payroll, and budget preparation
- Ensure timely and accurate closing of the books on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis
- Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard the company's assets and ensure the integrity of its financials
- Analyze financial data and work closely with senior management to support financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and decision-making
- Ensure proper filing of all corporate tax returns
- Identify any technology improvements while implementing and maintaining our current accounting systems
- Conduct performance reviews, set goals, and provide professional development for the accounting team
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in business, or a related field required; CPA, CFA or MBA preferred
- Minimum 7-10 years of accounting/finance experience, including supervisory experience
- Strong experience with treasury, compliance, general ledger functions, month-end/year-end close processes, and financial reporting
- Experience working with private, family-owned companies would be an asset
CORE SKILLS
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and/or IFRS and financial regulations
- Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage a team and collaborate across departments
- Positive can-do attitude
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
