Intermediate Structural Engineer
The Role:
BMR is excited to be hiring a permanent, full-time Intermediate Structural Engineer based in Halifax, NS. If you are an intermediate level engineering professional with a passion for taking on new challenges and a desire to join a dynamic and growing team, we want to hear from you!
Your Education & Experience:
- Bachelor of Civil/Structural Engineering Degree (minimum) from a recognized post-secondary institution
- Minimum 5 years of relevant industry experience in building design and construction
- Eligibility to register as a professional engineer in the Province of Nova Scotia
Your Responsibilities:
- Structural design, analysis, detailing, and troubleshooting for diverse range of building assignments (e.g., new builds, renovations, additions, repairs, technical assessments, etc.)
- Demonstrated experience required in reinforced concrete and structural steel design in buildings. Familiarity with building science principles, cladding, and restoration considered strong assets
- Preparation of technical reports and assessments. Familiarity with preparing project specifications
- In-depth knowledge of current design codes and regulatory requirements
- Review of technical submissions from suppliers, contractors, etc. for compliance with contract documents
- Professionally represent the company with clients and contractors with a 'customer service' approach
- Work effectively in a team environment or individually with minimal supervision to meet client needs
- Work effectively with technical staff to ensure successful project outcomes
- Ability to coordinate effectively between project stakeholders (e.g., Architects, engineers, contractors, etc.)
- Monitor project budgets and objectives from a quality and risk management perspective
- Periodically travel to jobsites throughout Atlantic Canada to review construction progress related to BMR projects
Your Qualifications:
- Strong analytical and modelling capabilities (experience with ETABS and SAFE software a strong asset)
- Commitment to life-long learning and professional growth
- Highly motivated, pro-active approach to taking on new projects and meeting our client's needs
- Proficient with Microsoft Office software
- Excellent people skills and proficiency in English language written and verbal communication required
- Considerate of the constructability of project designs and details
- Comfortable interacting professionally with contractors on job sites
