Job Opportunity: Accounting Clerk (1 year Term)

Under the supervision of the Financial Officer, the Accounting Clerk is responsible for the efficient and timely coordination of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable administrative functions within the Accounting Services division. The Accounting Clerk provides support and assistance to the Accounting Services staff in the development of financial reports and documents and responds to inquiries from other business units, suppliers and clients. The Accounting Clerk remains knowledgeable about Invest Nova Scotia accounting and operational policies.

In this role, the successful candidate will:

  • Verify source documents for policy compliance and enters Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable data in SAP.
  • Prepare and coordinate daily bank deposit activities.
  • Prepare cheque and EFT payment runs.
  • Consistently maintain the vendor and customer filing system.
  • Perform filing and general administrative tasks.
  • Provide back-up to the Senior Accounting Clerk, with training provided.
  • Efficiently process employee expense reports and corporate credit card statements by receiving and verifying reports.
  • Follow up on account receivables not in good standing including mailing out notice letters and referral to collection agency.
  • In a timely manner, record and reconcile all loans and operating cash receipts on spreadsheets for month end reconciliation.
  • Input data into the SAP-CML system.
  • Monitor customer accounts for non-payment and delayed payment.
  • Accurately create and maintain spreadsheets.
  • Periodically cover reception duties. Some job tasks but not limited to answering and directing phone calls, directing clients to internal Invest Nova Scotia staff, signing for mail packages.

Education/ Professional Experience:

As a successful candidate, you possess a college diploma or certificate in accounting or bookkeeping combined with a minimum of 1 year of related experience. An equivalent combination of training and relevant experience in a professional financial administration work environment may be considered.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision
  • Excellent keyboarding skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software

Classification: This is a bargaining unit position with an Invest Nova Scotia 3 rate of pay: $45,214- $55,410 based on the March 31, 2024, collective agreement rates. Preference will be given to qualified Invest Nova Scotia NSGEU bargaining unit candidates.
