Position: Nutrition Assistant
Type: Temporary 100% Full-Time
Duration: Start Date: ASAP - End Date: September 2025

Position Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to support the health and well-being of Residents by developing, implementing and evaluating customized nutrition interventions for each Resident as directed by the Registered Dietitian. All tasks are to be approached in a spirit of teamwork, within and among departments, to ensure cooperation and completion in an efficient manner. As with every role, the underlying responsibility is the care and safety of each Resident. As such, the tasks required in fulfilling the responsibilities of this position, and the day-to-day routines/schedules for completing these tasks, are secondary only to ensuring the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of each Resident are met. Incumbent of the position is to work within the scope of practice and under the direction of the Mission Statement, Standards, Eden Principles, and Policies and Procedures of Tideview Terrace.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of NSCC Graduate Certificate in Food Service and Nutrition Management OR Two Years Completion of an Undergraduate Nutrition Degree from an Accredited University.
  • Be familiar with the Eden Alternative Philosophy in long term care. Certification as an Eden Associate preferred.
  • Experience in geriatric/long term care clinical nutrition preferred.
  • Knowledge of the nutritional needs of the long-term care Resident.
  • Strong interpersonal and team building skills as well as a positive working attitude; ability to work independently as well as an integral member of Resident-focused teams.
  • Excellent time management and decision-making skills related to nutritional care of the Residents.
  • The ability to manage numerous tasks in a long-term care setting with minimal supervision.
  • The ability to analyze challenging situations and show initiative by actively seeking out opportunities to contribute to problem-solving and the development of action plans.
  • Must possess good written and oral communication skills and ability to present ideas in a well-organized fashion.
  • Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office applications (Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and Momentum (electronic charting).
