Mechanical Engineer

Location: Miramichi

We are currently seeking applications from people interested in joining the engineering team for the design and construction of a new plant in Miramichi. This state-of-the-art processing plant will create polycrystalline silicon from quartz, which is used in the manufacturing of solar panels and computer chips. The design phase will begin immediately, with operation expected in 2012. It is intended that this position will transition to an operations function once the plant is fully commissioned.

Job Description:

Representing the owner, this individual will normally be assigned to the engineering contractor to support and sometimes oversee the mechanical design of major equipment, piping systems, and structural support systems for the project. They will review and approve design specifications related to this discipline. This person also has a field technical support role during construction and startup of the new facilities. Post project activities could include assignments in the engineering or maintenance department participating in design, minor capital projects and process safety management.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Applies standard practices, techniques, and procedures in specific situations carrying out a sequence of related technical tasks.
  • Develop design solutions and make technical recommendations to design team.
  • Provide technical review and approval of technical design documents.
  • Participate in technical review meetings.
  • Participate and/or lead safety reviews, and administrative functions required to support these activities.
  • Provide technical support to construction group as issues arise in the field.
  • Participates and/or leads the commissioning of new equipment, including writing procedures and training.
  • May be asked to lead small capital projects.

Qualifications:

  • Able to organize and effectively manage multiple activities simultaneously.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and be detail oriented.
  • Must be able to write reports, procedure manuals, and make effective presentations.
  • Able to travel as required for existing expansions and future expansion projects.  
  • Minimum 7 years experience in an industrial chemicals production environment
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university, and able to apply for certification with APEGNB
