Regional Health Authority B
Important changes are underway to improve health care delivery to the residents of New Brunswick. On September 1, 2008, under the direction of Honourable Michael Murphy, Minister of Health, the province of New Brunswick embarked on its vision and strategic direction to guide the transformation of its health-care system. Part of the transformation was the restructuring of eight regional health authorities (RHAs) into two – Regional Health Authority A and Regional Health Authority B.
Regional Health Authority B, headquartered in Miramichi, delivers quality patient focused health care in both official languages to two-thirds of the province. RHA B includes the following regional hospitals: The Moncton Hospital, Moncton; Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John; Miramichi Regional Hospital, Miramichi; Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton and eight community hospitals.
The new structure provides New Brunswickers with access to a larger network of integrated health care services and health care providers while also producing a more efficient and effective health care system. Employing 13,000 staff members and 1,000 physicians, we are one of the largest employers in the province. Serving a population of 600,000, we are providing an extensive range of innovative and comprehensive care through our 12 hospitals, 35 community health centres and clinics, 33 public health and extra mural program locations, and 21 addiction services and community mental health service locations. We also work with our important community partners including 20 Foundations, 18 Auxiliaries and Alumni and 3,500 volunteers.
